Proceso antes de Acolchar un proyecto! ( Process Before Quilting a Project! )

Cuando uno realiza un proyecto, sea un edredon, un pendon, un camino de mesa etc, no solo es importante el diseno o los colores que uno use, tambien el acabado es importante. El acolchado es el proceso final de cada proyecto y tanto el frente como la parte de atras debe quedar lo mas liso posible sin bombas o arrugas en las telas. Esta parte de la creacion siempre trae un poco de estres, pero si toman en cuenta estos cinco pasos, les aseguro un trabajo final bastante parejo. Tanto la tela del tope como la tela que van usar en la parte de atras deben estar planchadas y lisas. A continuacion segun el orden de las fotos les describo mi proceso de montaje, donde yo personalmente uso mi mesa de comedor, la cual tiene una pieza de contrahenchapado muy fino encima, que me protege mi mesa de las puntas de los alfileres.

Foto #1. Colocar la tela de atras con el frente hacia abajo, con el largo de la tela con el largo de la mesa. Luego colocar el relleno, llamese guata, batting o esponja, cuadrandola con la tela de atras.

Foto#2 y #3.  Estos ganchos grandes son los que uso para sostener las tres piezas juntas y poder estirar cada una para tener la seguridad de que no abra arruga alguna en mi trabajo. Pueden conseguir este tipo de ganchos en quincallas como de los chinos (en Venezuela), Dollar General (en USA), por lo general se usan para guindar la ropa cuando la queremos secar al sol.

Foto#4. Debemos cuadrar el tope con el relleno y la tapa de atras, dejando como dos dedos sobrante de relleno y tapa trasera por todos los 4 lados del proyecto, esto nos garantiza que tendremos suficiente tela que cubrira completamente todas las tapas.

Foto#5.  Buscando el medio del proyecto, en este caso el medio del edredon, estiramos con las manos todas las capas de tela juntas, precionamos y estiramos, colocando los ganchos en orden, estirando y planchando con las manos antes de colocar cada gancho, esto garantiza que todas las capas de telas estan planas y estiradas sin arrugas por detras, colocamos ganchos en todos los lados de la mesa. Si tu mesa es muy gruesa va ser dificil colocar los ganchos, tendras que buscar algo que te prense todas las telas.

When you want to do a project, a quilting, a banner, a table runner, or etc, the desing it’s not only important, or the colors that you use, and the finish it’s also important. The padding it’s part of the finish of every project, make sure the front and the back are smooth as possible without bombs or wrinkles in fabrics. This part always brings a bit of stress, but if you follow this 5 steps, I assure you a good and even quilt. For a better finish iron the fabrics from the back and the front and smooth. Next I will show you in the order with the picture how I do my assembly process. I use my dining table which has plywood on top to protect it from the tips of the pins.

Photo# 1. Set the back fabric upside down, the length of the fabric with the length of the table. Next set the wadding and try that both, the back fabric and the wadding has the same length and wide.

Photo # 2 & 3. These hooks are great. I use them to hold the three pieces together, to stretch each and to be sure I don’t have any wrinkles in the quilt. You can find this hooks in the dollar store, they are used for hang clothe when you want to dry it outside.

Photo# 4. we have to make sure the top, the batting, and the backing are add up, leaving around two fingers of wadding and backing on all four sides; the backing and the batting its round two fingers bigger in all 4 sides than the top, this will guarantee us enough fabric to cover all.

Photo# 5. From the middle of the quilting star smoothing with your hands and eliminating all the wrinkles from all fabrics, pressed & iron with your hands, smooth it before putting the hooks in order, By placing the hooks in order, stretching and ironing by hand before placing each hook, this ensures that all layers of fabric are flat and without wrinkles and stretched behind; Put the hooks all around the table. If your table is too thick will be difficult to place the hooks, you’ll have to find something that will crush all fabrics.
